Hey there readers,
Hope all is good. If it’s your first time, then welcome. If you’re returning, thank you, it’s really appreciated. Here’s the next instalment of my infamous newsletter (infamous now, and maybe one day it will be world famous - I can but hope). Please share a link to your friends and family if you like it, it would really help the channel take off.
Disclaimer:
This is not perfect, and there will be typos and parts that are not neatly glued together. But the point is more to build up my newsletter count and have a bit of fun. You can point out my mistakes, and I will ignore you and make more of them.
You’re welcome!!
So, what’s on my mind? Keep reading….
RANDOM QUOTE
Every day and in every way I’m getting better.
THOUGHTS
So, I wanted to steer the newsletter away from every day news things, especially in the political sense. However, on a recent trip to Rotterdam to see a few volleyball matches, even there I seemed to be exposed to political protests. Now, I can’t really comment on what they were protesting about, because I didn’t bother asking. Having said that, along with the Just Stop Oil protesters (and look, they are getting air time on my newsletter), they really need to find another channel that actually works and doesn’t just annoy those that have been exposed and impacted by the disruption they have caused. Some of the points, I agree are valid. Despite that, when it is stopping people from getting to places like work, visiting family or enjoying my life, that’s where the support goes out of the window. I can also throw those that partake in strike action of public services. Just my view of things. End of my rant.
NEWS
No News
As they say, sometimes no news is good news.
READING
Studying
I have taken a break from reading this time round, as I am working on various projects and also studying of new/updated technologies which have really consumed my time over the last month. This is also the reason why my newsletter is so behind. Yes, maybe I should invest in a book on time management.
WATCHING
SWAT
I’ve been watching SWAT now for many seasons, it’s full of action and interesting storylines, starring Shemar Moore.
CITADEL
This kind of reminds me of a series based updated version of Mr & Mrs Smith. I haven’t watched it all, but it’s quite good. It stars the amazing Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico) and Richard Madden (Bodyguard).
LISTENING
Listening to music has always been part of my DNA, and generally I steer more in the urban space. Having said that, I will open that boundary to almost any other genre just to inspire in the experimentation of my own productions.
Twitch
Hold On!!! Before you think I have lost the plot, let me explain. Up until recently I kind of understood that Twitch was a gamers/nerds platform that you go and waste an endless amount of hours watching the streamers play games. How wrong was that assumption? I have since been enlightened to a larger world of other genres on the Twitch platform. This is why I have mentioned this in the listening section, particularly in the arena of music. DJs have fully embraced the platform and made it their own. You can find all sorts on there and various ways of supporting those you like best. Be sure that I will be investing some of my time, researching opportunities and hopefully be able to showcase my creativity in the near future.
CREATIVE
Creativity is the core of my existence, It’s a creative rollercoaster of producing either music tracks, mixtapes, 3d scenes, or digital garments. Sometimes you have to take time out, engulf yourself in new techniques and ideas and then go again. Watch this space….periodically new stuff will be here.
As I mentioned early, I have been working on projects and learning new/updated technologies. One project was to update my personal website. I use this to demonstrate what I have understood through study, and so it is always a work-in-progress and packed with various things from 3D creations, music tracks and merchandise ideas. This was built completely from scratch and re-imagined in a clean profile. You can check it out at https://www.damaja.co.uk.
ADVICE
Jack of all trades, master of none
I remember when I received the label, jack of all trades, master of none and felt quite irritated by it. But let me explain to you why I opted away from the mastery of one. When I started my career I was led to believe that being a specialist was the best way to go. I spent 100s of hours learning a technical skill and really became that “go to” guy. This felt great initially, and as I continued working at the same company, I didn’t envisage ever needing any other skills. That was until I decided to go for another job and then finding out that they saw that skill as dead in the water. Long story short, I decided from that day, it’s better to learn enough of many things and then if you need to focus a little extra on a certain skill it’s not a problem. It’s easier to start from a basic level of understanding than nothing at all.
Also, on looking into “a jack of all trades, master of none”, it’s not as negative as it appears to be understood these days. The full quote is actually:-
a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one
So you see there, taking only part of a quote can be easily misinterpreted.
Till the next time
